№ 56. Ecologist – a free dark and green WordPress theme

As promised in the last post (the one listing some beautiful eco themes), I release today the Ecologist, a free WordPress theme designed to protect the environment.
The idea behind this theme is that it should reduce the power consumption to a minimum possible level. To this effect, I made no use of javascript or images, and the use of php calls is as low as the functional exigences permitted.

The theme’s features

  • very light weight (17kb of template files);
  • high speed (the average loading time provided by various speed testing applications is about 1 second).
  • SEO friendly title tag;
  • valid XHTML 1.0 strict;
  • valid css 2.1;
  • widget ready;
  • Gravatar support;
  • fixed width;
  • flexibility (the theme is built on a grid which allows you easily style single posts without usingĀ  a line of php);
  • “inbuilt” support for two IAB advertising formats (the 728×90 leaderboard and the 250×250 sqare);
  • dark background, for lesser power consumption.

The theme is released under the GNU/GPL .v2 licence, which means you are free to use it, modify it or distribute it with the condition to preserve the current licence and the attribution (the link in the footer).
